“It’s the most wonderful time of the year…” Time to make Christmas crafts. The best gifts are handmade. What better place to start then with a fun and functional paper Christmas tree craft? We needed a simple project since we are still in Cyprus and don’t have access to our studio full of supplies. We began with some Pinterest inspiration from East Ping DIY crafts and made a few modifications to suit our needs.
What you need
- Paper
- Scissors
- Markers, pens, or crayons
- Glue
- Pom-poms (optional)
What we did
Start by folding your paper on the diagonal to create a square. If you are using a rectangular piece of paper trim off the excess piece so that you have a folded triangle that opens to a square. We used white printer paper as we didn’t have any green construction paper. Use what you have on hand.
Next cut strips in to one of the two open side edges (avoid the folded edge). Don’t worry about being perfect. Thick cuts, thin cuts, it will all work out in the end, I promise.
Now open the square and begin folding the cut edges to the center fold. Work your way up from the bottom leaving a small diamond shape at the top. Fold the bottom corner up.
Once you have folded all your Christmas tree branches in, start decorating. You can use pom-poms or glitter if you have it. We stuck to markers and pens.
When finished we wrapped ours up with pipe cleaners and a handmade Christmas card, and popped them in the mail to Big Poppy and Grammy.
What we thought
We had to improvise with what we had on hand and they look lovely. If you need a no tears (yes!!) Christmas craft and you only have the basic craft supplies on hand this Christmas Tree is a winner.
